On a hot and humid Tuesday night in Trenton the Talawanda High School Girls Soccer team played the Edgewood Cougars in conference play. The senior class led by captains Addie Brown and Sydney Rollins had never defeated Edgewood in their 4 years at Talawanda. Both teams scored in the first half to make it 1-1 at the break. Edgewood scored early in the second half off a nice cross and header finish which made the score 2-1 Cougars. Talawanda kept their heads up and pushed on to tie the match with a goal by Kyra Koontz. With the match even at 2 apiece and 5 minutes remaining, Ainsley Clark made a great move on a defender and buried the ball in the back of the net to give the Braves the 3-2 lead. Clark finished the match with 2 goals and 1 assist and Sydney Rollins also added an assist. As the final whistle sounded, the Lady Braves stormed the field for their first win against Edgewood since 2008. The seniors had several contributors including Kaitlyn Smith, Rachael Garrison, Sarah Squance and Bailey Hall. The win evens the Braves record in conference play at 2-2 and improved overall to 5-7. The Lady Braves are on the road Thursday for a match against Winton Woods and return home to Oxford Saturday for a match against Hamilton.
